Have you ever been told to go somewhere and when you got there, you wondered, “Why am I here?
An angel told Philip, “Arise and go toward the south along the road which goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” This place where he was been sent to was in the desert. As he stood there, Philip may have been asking himself what he was doing out there in the middle of nowhere. Then the Holy Spirit told him, “Go near and overtake this chariot.” The chariot was carrying an Ethiopian eunuch who was reading Isaiah 53.
Philip made a concerted dash toward the moving transport. Once he managed to overtake it, he asked the man if he understood what he was reading. His response was, “How can I, unless someone guides me?” And he asked Philip to come up and sit with him. The man wasn’t sure whom Isaiah was talking about—himself or someone else. Using that scripture, Philip preached Jesus to the man. And the man believed and accepted Jesus and was baptized.
Has the Holy Spirit called you to go after someone and tell them about Jesus? Have you gone somewhere and then asked yourself what am I doing here? It could be that God wants you to reach out to someone in that place. Like Philip, just go and the Lord will take care of the rest.
