Your Giant

1 Samuel 17

From all appearances David might have seemed like the underdog when he faced Goliath, the giant Philistine soldier because of his size and the fact that he was a shepherd boy.  Yet, in reality Goliath was the one who was at a disadvantage.  Why?  He thought he could defy the Israelites but he didn’t count on the God of the Israelites.

When David faced Goliath, he did it without fear for his life.  He knew that the battle belonged to the Lord.  That’s why he was able to declare, “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.  This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you and take your head from you.”

Goliath saw a boy and was insulted but he didn’t see the God who was in David’s corner, ready to deliver his enemy into his hand and bring victory to His people, Israel.  David didn’t need a sword.  He used a sling.  In that day, the sword was not mightier but the courage of a young boy who had unshakable faith in his God.

When you face obstacles, trials and temptations, do you feel like you’re the underdog?  Don’t despair.  Don’t lost hope.  The same God who gave victory to David will give you victory over whatever you are facing.  Face your giant in faith and allow God to deliver it into your hands.  Remember God is bigger than your giant.

Faith is when you stop saying, “I can’t” and start declaring, “I can because Christ gives me the victory.”
